Goals and Accomplishments through summer 2008
Goal 1: Consider the environment in our decisions
- Buy green – Before buying anything, we ask vendors about their programs to protect the environment. This covers a broad range, even down to our janitorial, security and food service operations.
- Print less – We reduced and eliminated more than $1.9 million in print materials for our small business products.
- Switch to recyclables – We replaced non-recyclable UV-coating with water-based coating on in-store displays, a manufacturing process that minimizes volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, in the air.
- Reduce air travel – We built high-definition collaboration studios at five major Intuit locations to eliminate air travel for real-time meetings.
- Build green offices – Our San Diego office, where about 15 percent of Intuit works, is LEED-certified.
- Safely remove e-waste – At 12 Intuit locations, e-cycling bins collect technology-based waste for disposal following strict EPA guidelines.
- Reduce our carbon footprint – We aim for a 15 percent reduction from our last carbon footprint assessment by the end of Intuit's fiscal year 2010.
Goal 2: Make it easier for our customers to be green
- Go paperless – Digital Insight, an Intuit company providing online banking services to mid-market banks and credit unions, ran a promotion to encourage customers to adopt online statements and bill pay. They also partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation to help plant 100,000 trees.
Goal 3: Be transparent and engage with all stakeholders
- Share our numbers - We submitted company information to the Carbon Disclosure Project, or CDP, an independent not-for-profit organization that acts as an intermediary between shareholders and corporations on all climate change-related issues.
- Involve employees – In addition to onsite swap meets, Intuit employees can participate in Freecycle, a nonprofit, grassroots movement aimed at keeping reusable items out of landfills by providing forums where people can post and find free items.
