Corporate Sustainability

Overview

Intuit officially went green in August 2007, although we'd been environmentally conscious for a long time before that. Urged by employees and encouraged by management, we created Intuit Green, our corporate sustainability effort, with three specific goals.

Consider the environment in our decisions

It started with the formation of employee green teams at various company locations, creating grassroots efforts to reduce waste. Innovative recycling programs sprang up throughout the company, ranging from electronic waste collection to employee swap events.

Now in its second year, Intuit Green continues to gain momentum with increased focus thanks to our first environmental study. We have an exciting strategy and goals. Environmental impact is a key consideration in the decisions we make to run the company, resulting in improvements like greater energy efficiency in our buildings, a reduction in packaging for our products, and the choice of recyclable paper in our marketing materials.

Make it easier for our customers to be green

We know that our customers want to make smart choices about their finances and their impact on the environment. That's why we're exploring ways for them to be both financially smart AND green.

Obviously, we've been saving paper for years. Our eFile service for TurboTax and Canadian QuickTax customers, for example, saves reams of paper that no longer have tax returns printed on them. In addition to savings in tax products, we also help eliminate paper through e-statements and e-mailed invoices and reports in QuickBooks. We think there's even more we can do than save paper, so we're talking to our small business customers about how they think green will affect their business. We're working on some exciting ideas that we hope to share soon.

Be transparent and engage with all stakeholders

We want to announce and celebrate our green successes, but we also want to let people know the areas where we're not far enough along. We don't see any other way to build credibility, either with our employees, our customers or our shareholders.

We also seek the involvement of anyone who shares our green passion. An Intuit employee with a good idea has the ear of executives. And down the road, we'll have a way to hear great ideas from our customers. We want to share our journey with all who want to travel with us.
